Frequently asked questions
HIP is an opportunistic, healthcare-only venture capital firm built with and for a community of seasoned investors—both non-institutional (angels, family offices, physicians) and institutional (VCs, health systems, strategics). We screen and invite startups to begin their investment journey by presenting at one of our Investor Meetings. Check out the About Us page to learn more about HIP.
HIP is more than a healthcare venture capital firm—we are a full lifecycle partner. We stay actively involved with our portfolio companies, providing advisory, commercial, and exit support. In addition, we engage healthcare experts (who are also investors) to guide the entire investment and post-investment process.
Investor meetings are held virtually to accommodate investors across multiple time zones. From time to time, we also host in-person meetings.
There is no fee to participate in the process or to present. However, if we invest, there is a required (non-negotiable) advisory agreement. The structure of this agreement is tied to the investment amount and subject to negotiated factors.
Startups should have investor-ready materials prepared and be able to clearly articulate their value proposition. We also provide templates to support you as part of the application process.
We focus exclusively on healthcare. Our investments include digital health, health tech, tech-enabled services, health IT, and life sciences (medical devices, diagnostics, and screening).
We do not invest in drug discovery, drug development, or biotechnology.
Startups need to complete the following steps:
1. Fill out the contact form.
2. If there is alignment, we will invite you to the application process.
3. The completed application folder is reviewed by our selection committee.
4. Selected startups are invited to present at an investor meeting.
HIP is opportunistic in its approach. Our first checks typically target Seed through Series A, though we also consider growth and late-stage startups. For more details, visit our About Us page.
Meetings are attended by members of the HIP investor network, which includes healthcare venture capital firms, strategics (health systems, payors, corporates), non-institutional investors (operators, healthcare executives, physicians), and high-net-worth individuals/family offices.
Our investors remain confidential until the investor meeting. Companies are not permitted to contact them before or after the event unless an investor chooses to continue the conversation.
You receive a gift: active, real-time diligence. Following the meeting, we compile the results into a 7–10 page diligence feedback report containing both quantitative and qualitative insights. Clear next steps are communicated—whether we are passing or continuing diligence—so you always know exactly where we stand.
